One of our most popular services is the camera monitoring for exams or supervised activities.
This system monitors the user's behavior during the test and presents a report to the academic manager with the results obtained.
Smowltech does not approve or suspend a user, it simply prepares a report with the evidence obtained during the exam: use of resources not permitted by the teacher, user authentication, etc.
How do I know if I have a camera exam?
Ask your institution, teacher or academic officer about the conditions of your exam. They will inform you about the monitoring that will take place.
When you access your exam or supervised activity you will see that the SMOWL monitoring block is activated.
Our block includes a video window every time the camera is active, allowing the user to check that everything is correct and that nothing is interfering with their camera.
Remember:
Your image should appear inside the SMOWL box.
Make sure you have adequate lighting conditions and that your face is clearly visible.
Make sure your camera is not covered.
Do not wear anything that covers your head or face. Keep in mind that only reading glasses are allowed.
You must be alone in the room where you do the activity. If there are more people, this will be reported.
Do you have problems with your camera?
When the camera is not detected a message will appear within the monitoring block.
If you have to take a monitored exam with SMOWL, the first thing you will have to keep in mind is that you must grant camera and microphone permission from your browser.
The first thing we must do is make sure that the camera works correctly, there are many ways to check if your camera works, we suggest one of these:
Test your camera through this external tool: webcamtests.com
Test your camera with our camera testing system.
Open the native Windows camera application and when the app opens you have to see yourself.
Camera permissions
As an example we will use Google Chrome, one of our recommended browsers.
Open Chrome.
At the top right, click More Settings.
Click Privacy & Security/Site Settings/Camera.
Select the option you want to set as default. Check blocked and allowed sites.
To give and remove permissions, click on the browser button at the top left of the URL.
To check that the camera is working correctly, you must be displayed in the SMOWL block and the icon must be green.
