Generally, you should not open any programs or files during your online exam. If you have any questions, we recommend that you consult with your institution, as they are responsible for setting the exam rules.

The day has come. You've signed up for an online course and you've been told that you have to register for a tool called SMOWL? And how do I do all that? - You ask yourself.
Remember that all your activities and exams will take place within your virtual campus, so you will find everything you need there for your exam. If you have to download one of our tools, It is available within the course or page where you will take your exam.
That means that SMOWL... you'll find it there too!
Where can I find my SMOWL panel?
Depending on your platform you may find the SMOWL panel within the course or subject in one place or another. Depending on your platform it will be marked differently:
 | In MOODLE/OpenLMS you will find a blue block indicating access to the SMOWL Panel.

 | In Blackboard and Canvas the dashboard can be accessed from the tool available within your course. |
Still cannot find it?
💡Try searching for SMOWL within your course as follows: On the course page press the keys ctrl+F (or cmd+F if you are using macOS). This will open the search tool inside your course page. Inside the search engine type SMOWL.
The browser will highlight this word within your course page, making it easier for you to find it.
You will find the SMOWL Panel within your course. If you can't find it, ask your teacher or school.
What is the SMOWL panel?
The SMOWL Panel is your access point to the different tools available for monitoring your course.
What does the SMOWL Panel include?
Depending on the needs of the course you are enrolled in, the contents within the SMOWL Dashboard may vary. Let's see what components can be included within your student panel:
 | A direct link to the registration in our system. The panel will indicate in red/green the status of your registration. If you want to know more about the registration process you can read the following article. |
 | In case your institution requests it, you will have to install an extension in your browser. This extension has numerous utilities, including the ability to block your browsing during the exam if requested by your institution. You can read more about it in the following article. |
 | Your institution may want to monitor your computer during the exam. SMOWL CM is a tool that allows your teachers to know what happens on your computer while you are taking the exam. What programs you have open, what websites you visit during the exam... |
 | Still not clear on how our system works? Solve all your doubts by accessing our Help Center, where you will find all the information on how our tools work. |
 | If you still need help you can always contact our support team from the SMOWL Panel. They will help you with everything related to our monitoring system. |
Whether at the beginning of the course or before taking your first exam, you'll need to register on SMOWL. Why? Because that's what will allow us to ensure that it's really you taking the exam.

How do I know if I'm registered?
At the end of the registration, a message will tell you the status of it.
Correct | Great! Your registration is valid, and you don't have to do it again. |
Pending | You've taken the photo, but it hasn't been validated by SMOWL yet... don't worry, you can access the exam. Our team validates it in less than 24 hours. |
Rejected | If the registration is rejected, we'll ask you to register again. When accessing the registration link or an exam supervised by us, the process will start over. |
If you've already registered, you can take your exams as usual. If something went wrong, we'll ask you to register again.
Go to your exam
During the exam, you'll see a blue box (monitoring block) that shows how you're being monitored. If one of the tools is malfunctioning, it will be highlighted in red. Follow the instructions to troubleshoot the problem.

If you see the following message:
SMOWL is not correctly engaged, refresh your browser
If you see this message.
Check that you can see the blue SMOWL block on your activity page.
If you don't see it, look for the block menu on the side of your activity and click on it.
Once you see it, check which of the monitoring components requires attention (a red icon is there) Camera, Microphone, QR Code, Browser Extension or SMOWL CM.
Follow the steps in the guide to correct and continue with your activity.
